The public is invited to the third annual Kite Festival hosted by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui this August, 2018. More details will be posted. This event is free. Kite kits to decorate will be available for a $5 donation to the organization. Prizes will be available to the best decorated kite.
Attendees may also bring their own kites – big or small, traditional or modern, and see them in action at the festival. The event is open to all ages, as this is an opportunity for the community to get together and enjoy flying kites.
Kite flying in Japan dates back in the 16th century as a custom to pray for good health and a bright future. Kite festivals in Japan held today include hundreds of large kites – a display of craftsmanship and skill.
